Sunrisers blaze out Mumbai in IPL6

Hyderabad romp home by seven wickets to keep their campaign alive.

Match-winning knock.HYDERABAD: Shikhar Dhawan's unbeaten 73 allowed Sunrisers Hyderabad to oust heavyweights Mumbai Indians by seven wickets at Uppal, here on Wednesday evening.

It was a dominating show by the home team as they first restricted Mumbai to 129/4 and then completed a safe chase with two overs to spare.

As much as Dhawan's 55-ball knock, Ishant Sharma's 4-1-15-2 and leg-spinner Amit Mishra's 4-0-24-2 were equally responsible for the outcome.

Dhawan, however, stole the show in the second essay. He tided over the dismissals of Akshath Reddy (7) and skipper Kumar Sangakkara (21) and compiled his second fifty of the season, in 40 balls, displaying his customary preference for the off-side.

Although Hanumar Vihari (25) was out towards the end, Hyderabad were by then on the brink of a big win over a vaunted opposition. Mumbai received another scare when Pollard left the field after injuring his finger while attempting a catch.

Ishant strikes
After Rohit Sharma chose to bat, at no stage were Mumbai able to break the shackles. The run-rate hovered perpetually in the region of six per over and only a last-over flourish – worth 16 runs – took them to 129. Ishant was the stand-out performer and got the home team their first two wickets.

Sachin Tendulkar (14) struck fours off Dale Steyn, but was bowled through the gate by Ishant. The in-form Dinesh Karthik (0) then timed the lanky fast bowler straight to the point fielder.

Amit Mishra at the other end augmented the good work.

Tight bowling
A floater from the leg-spinner accounted for Rohit and an attempted sweep claimed Dwayne Smith (38), who, replays indicated, had gotten glove before pad. Although Mumbai lost no more wickets, Pollard (14, 19b) and Ambati Rayudu (34, 35b) were unable to change gears on a slowish wicket.

The pair added 50 in 43 balls with Pollard, in particular, failing miserably to get the big shots. Thisara Perera leaked three boundaries in the ultimate over to get Mumbai to a par total, but Hyderabad rode their home advantage well to chase down what may well turn out to be a crucial victory.
